Krista Dawn Poulton | Medical Herbalist, DIP PHYT, RHT
Krista Dawn Poulton is a Medical Herbalist in Victoria, BC. She balances her private practice as a faculty member at Pacific Rim College, teaching courses in herbal medicine and medicine making, along with supervising clinical training. Her mission with her practice is to teach women to love and adore their bodies, address societal norms of body awareness, and educate ways to shift reproductive issues with the use of herbs, diet and supplements. Krista’s clinical practice focuses primarily on reproductive health from post-birth control care, fertility planning to infertility, endometriosis, fibroids and PCOS.
Course description
This course was designed to follow Krista’s introductory course, Women’s Health – Anatomy, Hormones & Cycle-Tracking. Taking this introductory course will ensure you fully understand anatomy and hormones before moving on to learning about herbs. We recommend taking them as a pair!
If you’re planning to use herbs in a clinic setting, we suggest taking the course Menstrual Cycle-Tracking and Herbal Medicine for Practitioners either following or instead of this course.
As women move through the transitions of puberty, fertile years, and perimenopause/menopause, specific herbs and lifestyle recommendations can be a big help for overall health. Krista Dawn Poulton, an experienced herbalist and teacher of herbalism, will discuss these recommendations as well as some of the specific conditions women face during these transitions. Those that will be presented in detail include painful menstruation, hormonal acne, mood irregularity, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), fibroids, endometriosis, and infertility.
This class is ideal for the general public, but self-studied herbalists will be sure to gain a wealth of knowledge too!
You will learn about:
- Menstrual cycle-charting with basal body temperature, cervical changes, and cervical mucous
- Identifying the follicular and luteal phase pathologies including progesterone deficiency leading to recurrent miscarriages
- Anovulatory cycles leading to infertility
- PCOS and estrogen dominance leading to fibroids and endometriosis
- The causes for hormonal disruption
- An overview of the hormonal system
- The transitions of a woman’s life through puberty, fertile years, and perimenopause/menopause
- Herbs to assist with hormone management through said stages
