Mercy Southam is a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Founder and Owner of Eir Mobile Medicine, Canada’s first mobile acupuncture and natural medicine studio. Her entrepreneurial journey started at the age of 10, when she founded her community’s first Dog Walking-Private Detective Agency. Seeing the potential of combining these two lucrative industries, Mercy successfully spent the summer of 1996 with her eyes, ears, and (dogs’) nose on the neighbourhood. Since then, Mercy has explored a variety of industries and professions. She competed throughout Europe and North America as a Rhythmic Gymnast, lived alongside indigenous communities in the Kalahari Desert as a Medical Anthropologist, was a Professional Pillow Fighter with Toronto’s former Pillow Fight League, and has worked throughout North America and Uganda as an international non-profit Programs Coordinator. It was through these varied professions that Mercy discovered the single thread that links us all together: When our communities feel their best, everybody wins. With this ethos in mind, Mercy has devoted the decade to studying Acupuncture + Traditional Chinese Medicine. Having studied in both the USA and Canada, Mercy has immersed herself in a variety of healthcare systems, identifying ways to improve on existing structures. Her studies led her to residencies at Rady’s Children’s Hospital (San Diego, CA) and the MHS Family Recovery Centre (Oceanside, CA), where she witnessed first hand the power of collaboration between Eastern and Western medicine, and the importance of providing Acupuncture + Natural Medicine to the community.
This course explores business through the lens of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), introducing the five seasons and the Five Elements as a framework for creating a more balanced, sustainable, and aligned way of working. Students will learn how each season represents a unique energetic phase, how it connects to one of the Five Elements, and how these natural cycles can be applied to the rhythms of running a business.
Throughout the course, participants will gain a deeper understanding of the qualities, strengths, and challenges associated with each season, as well as practical strategies for working in harmony with these energetic shifts rather than against them. Each season offers opportunities for different types of work—from visioning and planning to growth, refinement, harvesting results, and rest. Students will discover which business activities are best supported during each phase and how to recognize when it is time to transition from one season to the next.
By understanding the natural energetics of the five seasons, students will develop a greater awareness of how cycles influence creativity, productivity, decision-making, and overall business health. Rather than relying on a constant pace, they will learn to align their work with the changing energies of each season, allowing for more intentional planning, improved efficiency, and reduced burnout.
By the end of the course, students will have a clear understanding of how to integrate the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine into their business practices. They will leave with practical tools and a seasonal framework that supports sustainable growth, purposeful action, and a more intuitive approach to operating a successful business.
This course outlines the five seasons in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and how those seasons can show up in your business. You will learn:
1. How each season relates to the five elements of TCM, and learn best practices for each distinct season.
2. The energetic shifts within each season, and how those shifts impact your work.
3. The best tasks and activities to complete during each season.
4. How to move forward in business with a clear understanding of how to operate their business efficiently while using the natural energetics of each season.
