Course description

Some of our ancestors relied on animal fats, properly prepared whole grains, enzyme rich foods and nourishing bone broths. Sally Fallon Morell, author of Nourishing Traditions, explains the nutritional benefits of these foods in this fascinating course.

Beginning with a presentation of Dr. Weston Price’s unforgettable photographs of healthy traditional peoples, Sally explains the underlying factors in a variety of traditional diets that conferred beauty, strength, and disease prevention.

This recorded live lecture covers:

A Campaign for Real Milk
According to the FDA, raw milk is inherently dangerous and should not be consumed by anyone, especially children, at any time or for any reason. Nothing could be further from the truth. Raw milk is inherently safe and the perfect food for almost everyone — especially growing children!

The Oiling of America
How the false cholesterol theory caused Americans to abandon traditional whole foods and created an epidemic of chronic disease.

How to Change your Diet for the Better
A step-by-step plan to put nourishing traditional foods — foods that your family will actually eat — back into your diet including easy breakfast cereals, soups, snack foods, high enzyme condiments and soft drinks that are actually good for you!

Healthy Pregnancy
A healthy pregnancy requires a nutrient-dense diet, avoidance of all drugs and medical interventions, and a bit of pampering. Special emphasis on the dangers of ultra-sound and pre-natal vaccinations.

Strategies for Healthy Eating
Even if you don’t like to cook, you can still eat a healthy diet; and if you do like to cook, you’ll find it much more fun when you use the principles of nourishing traditional diets!

You will learn about:

  • The history of the diet-heart theory of heart disease
  • Fraud and manipulation in medical research
  • The vital role of cholesterol in human health
  • Other theories of heart disease
  • Butter, the number one health food
  • Vital role of high cholesterol foods
  • Dangers of modern soy foods and soy infant formula
  • The conspiracy to promote vegetable oils and hydrogenated fats
  • Foods that help babies grow up smart and strong
  • Old fashion foods that give limitless energy and vibrant health
  • The unfortunate consequences of modern farming methods
Learn the reality of fad diets and about the Nourishing Traditions diet, so you are empowered to feed yourself and your family well.

Lesson plan

  1. The Key to Vibrant Health | Introduction
What is a healthy diet? Is it a vegetarian, vegan, low carb, or raw diet? Or something else? With so much information about health and nutrition available today, deciding what to feed yourself and your family can be challenging. Sally breaks down some fad diets and presents the Nourishing Traditions diet which is a long-term solution for achieving optimal health. Sally also discusses the dentist and researcher Weston A. Price and his work surrounding nutrition, tooth health, and the traditional diets of isolated people eating whole, unprocessed foods. Learn about the role diet plays in tooth decay and dental health issues which are more common today than ever.
  2. The Key to Vibrant Health | Eleven Principles of the Nourishing Traditions Diet: Part I
Sally dives into the eleven principles of the Nourishing Traditions diet: a set of recommendations designed to unlock vibrant, optimal health. Sally discusses animal-based, nutrient-dense foods consumed in traditional cultures and compares a vegetarian diet to an omnivorous diet. Learn about essential vitamins, cholesterol, fat, and key nutrients for brain development from whole foods. Factory foods are not Mother Nature’s foods! Discover why Sally calls some food “pornographic.”
  3. The Key to Vibrant Health | Eleven Principles of the Nourishing Traditions Diet: Part II
Sally continues with the eleven principles of theNourishing Traditions Diet. Here, you’ll learn about the importance of consuming both raw and cooked foods based on traditional knowledge. Sally also presents some fascinating information about digestion, gut flora, and enzymes. Are you confused about dietary fat? Sally breaks it down and builds a strong case for saturated fat consumption. Additionally, learn about the role of salt in an optimal diet and why bone broth deserves all of the attention it’s been receiving recently. An overall comparison of traditional diets and modern diets; you don’t want to miss this!
  4. The Oiling of America
A historical look at fat consumption in North America. Mainly, how the false cholesterol theory caused Americans to abandon traditional whole food and created an epidemic of chronic disease. With ample research and references, Sally challenges the diet-heart theory (lipid hypothesis) which connects heart disease to saturated fat intake. She presents a case against industrialized, processed seed oils, and for traditional forms of animal derived saturated fats as foundational for optimal health. Learn about the connection between stress and high cholesterol, cholesterol medications, and alternative explanations for heart disease, as well as the vital role of cholesterol in human health.
  5. A Campaign for Real Milk
Real milk is raw, unpasteurized, full-fat, and is made by pasture-raised animals. It is highly recommended under the principles of Nourishing Traditions. Sally speaks about the health benefits of raw milk while presenting the issues associated with pasteurized milk. Learn about what makes raw milk so nutritious, what it does inside the body, and why it is a uniquely safe food.
  6. How to Change Your Diet for the Better | Part I
Take your health into your own hands (in your kitchen). Sally will teach you how to make a Nourishing Traditions salad dressing with some of her favourite oils in under 40 seconds! Next, learn about why processed, industrialized fats and oils can be so harmful for health and how you can make easy changes. Learn about the six basic good fats and oils to have stocked in your kitchen, one of them being butter. Sally explains why she calls butter, “the queen of fat.” Lastly, a discussion on animal based-foods: quality counts!
  7. How to Change Your Diet for the Better | Part II
Sugar—who doesn’t need to cut down? Sally discusses the various forms of sugar and which ones fit into the Nourishing Traditions diet. Sally explains what causes sugar cravings and provides some of her favourite recipes to beat them. Next, Sally presents information about how to avoid toxic metals and additives in your food, as well as the proper preparation of grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds. What about preparing vegetables? Some are best raw, and others cooked; learn about some preparation techniques and a recipe for a delicious soup. To conclude, Sally presents information about fermented foods and encourages you to make your own at home!
  8. Guidelines for a Healthy Pregnancy
Sally discusses the importance of optimal nutrition starting six months before conception, during pregnancy, and lactation. She shares a detailed and recommended nutrient-dense diet during pregnancy which includes pre-natal vitamin rich foods. Sally speaks about common pregnancy concerns, breastfeeding, baby formula, and how to feed babies in the Nourishing Traditions way.
  9. Strategies for Those Who Don’t Like to Cook
Sally speaks about Nourishing Traditions foods that are easy to prepare, affordable, and enjoyed by many. If you don’t like to cook, you can still eat a healthy diet; and if you do like to cook, you’ll find it much more fun when you use the principles of nourishing traditional diets! Are you familiar with the blood sugar rollercoaster? Learn about how to balance your energy and mood with proper nutrition and basic food preparation. Sally includes an overview of supplementation, exercise, and eating out at restaurants.
