Hi Ben,
I’m sorry to hear your mom is having to wait this one out while backlogs in appointments go through. Hopefully she will be able to see someone soon enough, to start looking into the cause of the tinnitus.
Tinnitus can be a challenging one, since there can be so many causes. However there are a few simple herbal approaches to try out that may bring some relief while she is waiting for her appointment with the specialists. I know how frustrating this can be personally actually, as I have had tinnitus related to allergies and Eustachian tube inflammation. In this case the herbs recommended would be a bit different, but I have some general ideas below.
You could work with increasing circulation to the brain and giving the nervous system support. Some great herbs for this are Ginkgo (look for standardised capsules and follow the instructions on the bottle. The dose needs to be fairly high), Rosemary and Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica).
Some other immune system, nervous system and blood flow support herbs/mushrooms that come to mind and may be of some help in your mothers situation are: Reishi, Lion’s Mane, Turmeric, Wood Betony (Stachys betonica), Chamomile and many more.
Other suggestions would be to stop alcohol consumption for the time being and some supplements that may help are Vit. B complex, Magnesium, omega 3, vit. D3 and zinc.
If your mother isn’t on any medications, these herbs and supplements are likely to be safe for her to take considering any cautions on bottles (supplements).
Keep us posted with any updates or if you have any further questions.
Wishing your mother health.
Warmly,
Benna
