Hi, I came on looking for information on base creams and this seems to be a thread to reply to. I was wondering if you could provide any base cream recipes (or links to some) that are good for adding infused oils. I have found one at a herbal store that works but it is very expensive. I tried another unscented and very good quality body butter from a health food store that looked like it had the right type of ingredients, but it wouldn’t emulsify the oils. I added some beeswax which worked in that it created more of a salve but it’s a cream I’d like to end up with, e.g. making the muscle cream in the Home Herbals course. I made one small batch with the beeswax and one with the expensive cream and the heat from the cayenne didn’t seem to be apparent in the salve-like product. A cream is also easier to rub into a larger area.

I don’t want to keep buying different creams only to find they don’t work. That wastes not just money and time but my (precious) infused oils which I don’t want to happen. I’m interested in making my own base cream and have seen a few recipes online, but as many of the ingredients are unfamiliar to me, I don’t know what’s reliable and what’s not – as in, what will emulsify enough of the oils and what are ingredients that I might not actually want to include (e.g. petroleum-based products which names are not obvious as such).

Alternatively, can you provide some tried and trusted base creams to find online?

Thanks
