A patient presents with mental restlessness, bleeding and a dry mouth with no desire to drink. The tongue is crimson, and the pulse is surging. It is obvious that the patient has Heat in the Blood. But why does the patient have a dry mouth with no desire to drink?

From the information provided in the case, the patient suffers from Heat in the Blood. Therefore, the patient may have a dry mouth with no desire to drink, because Heat is not in the Yang-Qi system of the body.
A couple things are confusing. If the heat is in the blood, why is the mouth dry? We’re not told where the bleeding is, so that makes it difficult to understand the pattern, as well.
Further, the answer says “Yang-Qi system” – is that shorthand for Yangming stage and/or Qi level, from the 6 stages and 4 levels theories of diagnosis?
If not, what is it referring to? I haven’t heard the term “Yang-Qi system”, before.
