Thank you for your answers, Riley.
I was talking to a friend of mine who’s also studying nutrition (U of Athabasca) and the DRI also came up. She also sat down and started adding up her numbers from her daily diet, and she was like “oh boy, is there anyone that can actually achieve a 100% on a daily basis from all nutrients DRIs?” We came up with the conclusion that the optimal diet is a diverse and varied diet and as long as our body is not presenting with symptoms of deficiencies or excesses, just not worry about reaching that DRI for each nutrient… it looks quite impossible to reach those numbers every day of our lives.

I finally completed this subject. A question in regards to the case study of Molly… For future graduates like me, Certificate only, would you say that instead of immediately jumping into food suggestions; ask the person first if they’ve been to the doctor? Now supossing that any other condition/illness has been scratched off by the doctor. Then you come up with this plan; how do you manage the B12 daily intake needs? Say Molly is able to incorporate 3 cups of mushrooms plus some kimchi and sauwerkraut in her day. Would you suggest to add a B12 supplement for a while or do you insist on eating even more mushrooms…? – (I don’t think is feasible to eat that many cups of mushrooms daily, it’s actually somewhat funny to think about it) Maybe I’m ahead of myself and this situation will be covered in the next subject.
