That is helpful. After reading about 12 book and online sources I realized they were using both Populus trichocarpa and Populus balsamifera spp trichocarpa to describe the Black Cottonwood that we have here on Vancouver Island. Perhaps at some point they will settle on which is the ‘correct’ one taxonomically.
