Hi Debbie-lee,

This is a good question. It could be an indication that the person has a sensitivity to elecampane in particular, in order to figure out if it is a sensitivity to the whole family of plants they would also have this reaction when taking calendula, chamomile, burdock, echinacea, etc. etc. as elecampane is in the asteraceae family of plants and there are many medicinal plants in this family.

Has it happened on multiple occasions on taking elecampane? If it was just once, there may have been something else bothering the person. Elecampane is quite warming, bitter and diffusive and may irritate the digestive tract a bit for someone who already has a sensitive digestive system. You could try working with elecampane in a honey, that could be more soothing.

In terms of an alternative, it would depend on why you are working with elecampane?

With warmth,
Benna
