Pathogenesis is the ‘story of disease.’
Think about how you tell a health practitioner what is wrong:
“It all started with this nasty cold.
I was so cold for three days with body aches and nasal congestion.
Then the feeling of being cold all the time left, but I got a lot of hot sinus pressure, green nasal discharge and feelings of thirst.
After a few days of sinus pressure I started to develop constipation.”
The pathogenesis is story of disease – What happened first? What happened second? What happened third? Then you organize the information this way:
1. Wind-Cold
2. Lung-Heat
3. Heat in the Yangming channels
This is important in Chinese medicine because one ‘root’ condition can transform into another one. We want to be able to document this transformation.
