Hi, Kori! You’re a superstar for noticing this! This would have been an oversight on my part for not mentioning those other herbs in those formulas, likely because Xu Duan, Huang Qin, Bai Zhu, and Sha Ren are more often used specifically for this function of calming the fetus, whereas Shu Di Huang and Bai Shao are more supporting those herbs in stabilizing the fetus by addressing the underlying deficiency. The most important herbs to remember for their function of calming a restless fetus, in no particular order, are Bai Zhu, Huang Qin, Zi Su Ye, Xu Duan, Du Zhong, and Tu Si Zi. Dang Gui, Bai Shao, and Shu Di Huang would be supporting herbs, if the pattern fits. I would be cautious with Dang Gui, however, due to its moving action on the Blood.

Thank you for bringing this oversight to my attention! It is greatly appreciated!
Wishing you all the best on your studies and upcoming exam!! If you’re noticing things like this, it means you know you’re stuff and you’re in a great place!
