Herbal Energetics: Observing Qualities in the Human Body

Learn more about how to select herbs based on herbal energetics. Deepen your ability to observe the patterns emerging in the human body.  We’ll discuss specific manifestations of hot, cold, dampness, and dryness and how to select herbs to manage each pattern. You’ll leave with increased understanding of plant-human relationships and how the qualities of energetic assessment can enhance your ability to select plants best suited to a person’s current needs.

  • Energetic assessment through observing the qualities in the human body.
  •  The elements of Greco-Roman medicine.
  • Specific observations to discern the qualities in the human body (hot, cold, damp, dry).
  • Chronobiology (how daily and seasonal cycles impact our bodies).
  • How the qualities (hot, cold, damp, dry) relate to herbal adaptations and medicinal actions. 
  • Familiarization with select herbs in terms of their affects on the qualities when applied as medicines.
  • Herbs covered: Lemon balm, Marshmallow, Rosemary, Angelica, Rose, Dandelion, Yellow Dock, Burdock, andVervain. (Note: not all herbs will be covered in depth, this is more about linking a few herbs to each state/ quality discussed)

Lindsay Hounslow: Lindsay’s interest in plants was cultivated in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. During 10 years of work as a naturalist guide, Lindsay gained a deep appreciation for ecology and her clinical practice integrates her respect for the profound nature of connection within our web of life. She has a passion for increasing the availability of safe, effective plant based medicines and teaching people how to make use of plants, including through empowering people to use plants in their daily household life. She is a professional member of the British Columbia Herbalists. She is a happy gardener, yogi, and mother to 2 children.
