Rory Sandstone has been studying and practicing acupuncture and Chinese medicine since 2009. He has been an active faculty member of Pacific Rim College since 2016 where he has taught a range of subjects including orthopedic acupuncture, surface anatomy, tai ji quan, Chinese medicine foundations and clinical supervision. He has spent many years researching the interface between classical Chinese medicine and the revelations of modern fascial research. He is a vocal advocate for maintaining the integrity of Chinese medicine and for applying modern research to help modern practitioners understand classical theory. Rory is a life long martial artist and a lineage disciple of the Guang Hua Zhe Zong Tong Yi Pai lineage of Gao Baguazhang. He lives in Victoria, BC where he runs a busy clinical practice, his continuing education website (www.flyingcraneinstitute.com), and tries to keep up with his two lively daughters.
Myofascial acupuncture extends far beyond trigger points and ashi points for pain relief. While these are essential tools in any practitioner’s repertoire, understanding the myofascial anatomy of any point can transform it into an effective orthopedic treatment option. This deeper understanding bridges the gap between traditional theory and modern anatomical insights, revealing how every point can serve multiple therapeutic functions.
This course explores both classic and innovative needling techniques through the lens of myofascial structures, offering a comprehensive approach to treatment strategy. You’ll develop a sophisticated understanding of common point combinations and learn to apply myofascial principles for more consistent clinical outcomes. Most importantly, you’ll cultivate refined needle sensitivity and feedback awareness, enhancing your effectiveness across all treatment modalities, whether addressing acute pain or chronic conditions.

Tanya McMillan
“I loved it. I really appreciated the instructor didn’t read the notes; he knew his stuff. I am happy to learn new needle techniques that showcase how powerful and effective needling can be for myofascial pain.”
Michele Arnold - San Diego, CA, USA
“Excellent! Loved every minute of it. I love bridging the modern research of fascia with TCM understanding. The demos were awesome, but I loved the understanding of why these techniques works the best. It helps give language to be able to speak to patients about why and how this works.”
Avery - Victoria, BC, Canada

“Rory has been one of the most influential teachers in my education and career within Chinese medicine…He is an avid and curious learner, and has a unique ability to clearly communicate seemingly abstract or complex information to his students….I use orthopedic techniques that Rory taught me in the clinic every single day – I would love to study with him more and recommend anyone to do so if they have the opportunity!”
